డబ్ల్యూటీసీ లీగ్‌ దశలో దక్షిణాఫ్రికా 12 టెస్టుల్లో 8 విజయాలతో 69.44 పాయింట్లతో అగ్రస్థానంలో నిలవగా, ఆస్ట్రేలియా 19 టెస్టుల్లో 13 విజయాలతో 67.54 పాయింట్లతో రెండో స్థానంలో నిలిచింది. ఈ రెండు జట్లు ఫైనల్‌కు అర్హత సాధించాయి.

గాయం కారణంగా శ్రీలంక టూర్‌ మిస్‌ అయిన పేసర్‌, కెప్టెన్‌ ప్యాట్‌ కమిన్స్‌ మళ్లీ జట్టులోకి రీ-ఎంట్రీ ఇచ్చారు. వెన్నునొప్పికి శస్త్రచికిత్స తర్వాత విశ్రాంతి తీసుకున్న ఆల్‌రౌండర్‌ కామెరాన్‌ గ్రీన్‌, పేసర్‌ జోష్‌ హాజిల్‌వుడ్‌ కూడా ఫిట్‌గా తిరిగొచ్చారు. స్పిన్నర్‌ మాట్‌ కుహ్నెమన్‌కు చోటు దక్కింది.
