Taking to the social media platform X, Mr. Shah said it was shameful that the Opposition parties were celebrating the defeat of a Bill that would have strengthened women's political representation. "This is not the first time Congress and its allies have done this. They have consistently adopted the same stance on critical issues concerning national development and women's empowerment," he said.

The Home Minister asserted that the Congress had no genuine interest in national development, women's rights, or empowerment, and that all the parties that had voted against the Bill had together betrayed Indian women who had been fighting for their rights for decades.

Mr. Shah warned that the Opposition would face a decisive political response from the women of India in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. "The women of this country will give a fitting answer to the parties that opposed the Women's Reservation Bill," he said, adding that no political force could afford to take women's aspirations lightly.

The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, which sought to fast-track the implementation of the one-third reservation for women in legislative bodies, was defeated in the Lok Sabha on Thursday after the ruling National Democratic Alliance failed to secure the two-thirds majority required for a constitutional amendment. Of the 528 members who participated in the division vote, 298 supported the Bill while 230 voted against it, leaving the government 54 votes short of the required 352.

Her brother, Rahul Gandhi, had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli, securing victories in both constituencies. However, as per parliamentary rules, he had to vacate one seat, leading to his resignation from the Wayanad seat. Consequently, a by-election was held for the Wayanad constituency, in which Priyanka emerged victorious with a substantial majority.

Since entering Parliament, Priyanka has actively participated in opposition protests outside Parliament, particularly focusing on the Adani controversy, a matter that has been a point of contention among opposition parties. Her engagement in these protests highlights her proactive stance on pressing national issues.

Syria, once under the tight grip of President Bashar al-Assad for over five decades, is witnessing a monumental shift as rebels have taken control of the capital, Damascus. On Sunday morning, reports emerged that President Assad had fled the country, marking the apparent collapse of his regime. In a significant development, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali announced that the government was prepared to hand over power to the opposition.

"Ready to Hand Over Power"

Prime Minister Jalali, in a video message, confirmed that the government was ready to transfer authority to the opposition, stating that it was fully prepared to delegate responsibilities. He emphasized that he had not left Syria, reaffirming his allegiance to the country. “I am in my home. I have not left the country. I am a Syrian, and I will not leave this nation. Please, rebels, do not destroy public property,” Jalali urged.

End of 54-Year Family Rule

The rebels' control of Damascus has led to widespread reports of President Assad fleeing the country with his family, signaling the end of the Assad family’s 54-year rule over Syria. Assad's departure marks the collapse of a regime that has been in power since his father, Hafez al-Assad, seized control in 1970 through a military coup. Hafez ruled Syria until his death in 2000, after which Bashar al-Assad took over.

A Turning Point in the Conflict

Rebels have declared the end of the Assad era, with one opposition leader stating that Damascus had been liberated from Assad’s oppressive rule. “The dark era is over, and a new chapter is beginning for Syria,” he said. Meanwhile, celebrations broke out across the city, with rebels firing guns into the air and chanting slogans against Assad. Central squares were filled with jubilant crowds, honking car horns and denouncing the former president as a criminal and a dictator.

Key Statements from Rebel Leaders

Abu Mohammad al-Golani, leader of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), called for the cessation of hostilities in Damascus and demanded that government institutions be officially handed over to the opposition. His statement gained significance after Prime Minister Jalali's announcement that the government was prepared to cede power.

With Assad's apparent flight and the rebels taking over key areas of the capital, it seems that Syria is entering a new phase of its turbulent history. As the dust settles, both the international community and Syrian citizens await to see how the situation will evolve in the coming days.

Mumbai ( Journalist File ) : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar has raised concerns about the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the election process, expressing doubts over public trust in their reliability. Speaking at an anti-EVM rally in Markadwadi village, Sholapur district, on Sunday, Pawar stated that the public no longer has faith in EVMs, with many expressing skepticism regarding the results of recent elections in Maharashtra.

"While elections take place, with some winning and others losing, there is growing doubt among the public about the election process," Pawar said, referencing the recently concluded elections in Maharashtra. He noted that following the announcement of the election results, many voters have questioned the credibility of the EVMs.

Pawar highlighted that several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and various European nations, continue to rely on the traditional ballot system for elections, in contrast to India, which uses EVMs. "Why shouldn't India adopt the ballot system?" he questioned, emphasizing that the country should consider revisiting the traditional method of voting.

The NCP leader further stated that any complaints or concerns regarding the election process should be brought to his attention. "I will forward these grievances to the Election Commission and the Chief Minister of the state," Pawar assured.

This statement comes amid allegations of EVM misuse, with opposition lawmakers from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance refusing to take an oath on Saturday, accusing the machines of being tampered with during the elections.

New Delhi ( Journalist File ) : The INDIA alliance, formed with the primary objective of ousting the BJP from power, is facing mounting challenges, with significant discontent brewing within its ranks. The fractures within the coalition became evident during the recent Lok Sabha elections, and tensions have escalated further following various state assembly elections. A growing number of parties within the alliance are expressing dissatisfaction with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, raising questions about his ability to steer the coalition forward.

Several parties are increasingly questioning how long they can continue under the leadership of a leader who, according to them, has failed to deliver electoral success. Among the key parties voicing their frustration are Shiv Sena (UBT), TMC, and Samajwadi Party, all of whom have hinted at the need for a leadership change. Particularly, Mamata Banerjee’s recent statement about her dissatisfaction with the coalition’s leadership and coordination has added fuel to the fire.

Mamata’s Challenge to Leadership

In a media interaction on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over the way the INDIA alliance is being run. "I formed the INDIA alliance. If given a chance, I would manage it smoothly. However, I do not want to leave Bengal. I can run the alliance from here," she remarked, signaling her desire to play a more prominent role.

Shiv Sena Backs Mamata

Shiv Sena (UBT) responded positively to Mamata’s assertion, with MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stating, “We understand Mamata’s opinion. We want her to be a main partner in the alliance. We will soon hold discussions with her in Kolkata.” This move signals a potential shift in the alliance’s power dynamics, with Mamata positioning herself as a key figure for the future.

CPI(M) leader D. Raja also emphasized that while the overarching goal remains "Save India, Remove BJP," the alliance must recognize that each state has its unique challenges.

BJP Seizes on Discontent

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bandari seized the opportunity to highlight the internal strife within the alliance, stating that Mamata’s comments revealed the lack of confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Samajwadi Party leader Udayveer Singh echoed support for Mamata’s remarks, adding to the growing chorus of dissatisfaction.

Congress Responds Cautiously

The Congress party, which has been a key player in the INDIA alliance, responded cautiously to Mamata’s remarks. Congress leader T.S. Singhdeo suggested that any issues raised by Mamata should be discussed collectively within the alliance. Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore dismissed the suggestion of a leadership change, treating it as a non-serious comment.

Samajwadi Party Withdraws from MVA

In another significant development, the Samajwadi Party announced its decision to pull out of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. This decision followed a controversial post by Milind Narvekar, a close associate of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. Narvekar’s post, which included an image of the mosque and comments by Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, led to tensions within the MVA. The move saw two SP MLAs take oath independently, marking a further fracture within the opposition alliance.

As tensions within the INDIA alliance continue to rise, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining the future trajectory of the opposition's united front against the BJP.
