Andhra Pradesh , Kadapa ( Journalist File ) : YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Avinash Reddy was arrested by the police on Thursday following a heated altercation at the Vemula Tahsildar office in the Pulivendula constituency, which is part of the Kadapa district. The incident occurred during a protest involving farmers, who accused local officials of withholding "No Dues" certificates from YSRCP-affiliated farmers in the ongoing irrigation society elections.

Reddy, along with a group of farmers, had gathered at the Vemula office to demand the issuance of the certificates. Tensions escalated when Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-affiliated farmers were also present at the office. In the ensuing chaos, police detained Avinash Reddy and transported him to the Vemula Police Station before transferring him to Pulivendula for further proceedings.

Speaking to the media during the incident, Avinash Reddy criticized the ruling government for failing to fulfill any promises made to farmers in the past seven months. He expressed his belief that such negligence would lead to a crushing defeat for the government in the irrigation society elections.

"The refusal to issue No Dues certificates to farmers is a clear indication of the government's failure. When farmers come to cast their votes democratically, the ruling party, fearing defeat, is using the police to obstruct the process and indulge in unethical politics," Reddy said, denouncing the actions of the authorities. He also condemned the use of political influence to disrupt the democratic process and called for accountability.

Reddy further questioned the logic behind holding elections for irrigation societies if there was no genuine intent to conduct them fairly. He suggested that if the government had no intention to allow competitive elections, it should simply appoint nominees to positions in the irrigation societies, rather than giving it the title of an election.

The MP concluded by expressing his strong opposition to the government's actions and vowed to continue fighting for the rights of farmers in the region.

A growing number of parties within the alliance are expressing dissatisfaction with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, raising questions about his ability to steer the coalition forward.

Several parties are increasingly questioning how long they can continue under the leadership of a leader who, according to them, has failed to deliver electoral success. Among the key parties voicing their frustration are Shiv Sena (UBT), TMC, and Samajwadi Party, all of whom have hinted at the need for a leadership change. Particularly, Mamata Banerjee’s recent statement about her dissatisfaction with the coalition’s leadership and coordination has added fuel to the fire.

Mamata’s Challenge to Leadership

In a media interaction on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over the way the INDIA alliance is being run. "I formed the INDIA alliance. If given a chance, I would manage it smoothly. However, I do not want to leave Bengal. I can run the alliance from here," she remarked, signaling her desire to play a more prominent role.

Shiv Sena Backs Mamata

Shiv Sena (UBT) responded positively to Mamata’s assertion, with MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stating, “We understand Mamata’s opinion. We want her to be a main partner in the alliance. We will soon hold discussions with her in Kolkata.” This move signals a potential shift in the alliance’s power dynamics, with Mamata positioning herself as a key figure for the future.

CPI(M) leader D. Raja also emphasized that while the overarching goal remains "Save India, Remove BJP," the alliance must recognize that each state has its unique challenges.

BJP Seizes on Discontent

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bandari seized the opportunity to highlight the internal strife within the alliance, stating that Mamata’s comments revealed the lack of confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Samajwadi Party leader Udayveer Singh echoed support for Mamata’s remarks, adding to the growing chorus of dissatisfaction.

Congress Responds Cautiously

The Congress party, which has been a key player in the INDIA alliance, responded cautiously to Mamata’s remarks. Congress leader T.S. Singhdeo suggested that any issues raised by Mamata should be discussed collectively within the alliance. Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore dismissed the suggestion of a leadership change, treating it as a non-serious comment.

Samajwadi Party Withdraws from MVA

In another significant development, the Samajwadi Party announced its decision to pull out of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. This decision followed a controversial post by Milind Narvekar, a close associate of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. Narvekar’s post, which included an image of the mosque and comments by Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, led to tensions within the MVA. The move saw two SP MLAs take oath independently, marking a further fracture within the opposition alliance.

As tensions within the INDIA alliance continue to rise, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining the future trajectory of the opposition's united front against the BJP.
