Visakhapatnam, April 12: State Health Minister Y. Satyakumar Yadav on Monday announced that the Centre is set to introduce the 'Nari Shakti Vandanam' legislation aimed at ensuring adequate representation for women in legislative bodies, with parliamentary debate on the Bill scheduled for the 17th and 18th of this month.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP district office, presided over by district president M.M.N. Parashurama Raju, the Minister underscored the stark disparity between women's share of the population and their presence in elected bodies. "Women constitute more than half the country's population, yet their representation in legislatures stands at a mere 13 per cent," he said.

Mr. Satyakumar pointed to the success of the 33 per cent reservation for women in local bodies as evidence of their capability and readiness for a larger political role. He also cited schemes such as Jan Dhan accounts, Startup India, and Stand Up India as instruments through which women had achieved greater economic self-reliance in recent years.

Reaffirming the NDA coalition's commitment to substantive rather than rhetorical women's empowerment, the Minister stated that the alliance had set itself the goal of implementing the women's reservation framework from the next elections onward.

Opposition in the crosshairs

Turning to political matters, Mr. Satyakumar trained his criticism on the opposition, expressing surprise that the Congress party, which he said had failed to cross even the 100-seat mark, continued to level charges against the government. He also took strong exception to remarks by YSRCP leaders regarding investments by global firms such as Google and ArcelorMittal in the State, calling their statements unwarranted.

On the Bhogapuram project, the Minister said it was untenable for those who had neglected the initiative for five years to now claim ownership of it.

Commenting on the broader national political landscape, Mr. Satyakumar asserted that a change in governance was needed in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, and added that senior coalition leaders would campaign in areas with a significant Telugu-speaking population wherever elections are under way.

The press conference was attended by BJP Legislature Party leader P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, TDP district president Ch. Pattabhi, BJP State secretary U. Sujatha Raj, and women leaders N. Jyothi and Ananthalakshmi, among others.

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh BJP State President P.V.N. Madhav on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the increasing incursions by Tamil Nadu fishermen into Andhra Pradesh's coastal waters, demanding stringent action against those responsible. In a statement issued from the BJP State office, he said the problem had reached alarming proportions along the coastlines of Nellore, Ongole, and Bapatla districts.

Speed Boats From Cuddalore, Karaikal Causing Alarm

Madhav alleged that fishermen arriving in speed boats from Cuddalore and Karaikal were illegally entering Andhra Pradesh's coastal waters and intimidating local fisherfolk. He referred to a recent incident in the Juvvaladinna area of Nellore district, where local fishermen had intercepted Tamil Nadu boats found to be operating illegally and engaging in acts of intimidation, leading to a tense standoff in the region.

Overnight Release of Seized Boats Raises Questions

The BJP State president said that despite the matter being brought to the attention of the concerned authorities, the government's response had fallen short of expectations. He was particularly critical of the overnight release of the intercepted boats and their return to Tamil Nadu, stating that such actions only deepened suspicions and left local fishermen feeling unprotected. The absence of any punitive action against those responsible, he said, had fuelled a growing sense of insecurity among the coastal communities.

Strengthen Marine Police, Revive Coastal Security Grid

Madhav outlined a series of measures he said were urgently needed to address the situation. These included the modernisation and strengthening of marine police stations, the induction of local fishermen as Home Guards, and enhanced surveillance in coordination with the Coast Guard. He also called for the revival of the Coastal Security Technical System that had been in place in 2010, and suggested that retired Navy personnel and local fishermen be redeployed under the framework to bolster coastal vigilance.

Coordinate With Tamil Nadu for Lasting Solution

Urging the State government to take firm action against those who enter Andhra Pradesh's waters illegally and resort to intimidation, Madhav also called for coordination with the Tamil Nadu government to address the issue at an inter-State level. He appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government to find a permanent solution to a problem that had persisted for several years and continued to undermine the livelihoods and safety of coastal communities.

గుంటూరులోని విజ్ఞాన్ యూనివర్సిటీ వేదికగా ఆంధ్ర చెస్ అసోసియేషన్ ఆధ్వర్యంలో జరుగుతున్న 62వ జాతీయ చెస్ చాంపియన్‌షిప్ తొమ్మిదో రౌండ్‌లో సంచలనాలు చోటుచేసుకున్నాయి. ముగ్గురు గ్రాండ్‌మాస్టర్లు, మాజీ జాతీయ చాంపియన్లు అంతా ఇంటర్నేషనల్ మాస్టర్ల చేతిలో ఓటమిపాలయ్యారు.
పీఎస్‌పీబీకి చెందిన జీఎం సశికిరణ్ కృష్ణన్ గెలుపు అవకాశాన్ని కోల్పోయినా 7.5 పాయింట్లతో టాప్‌లో కొనసాగుతున్నాడు. తమిళనాడుకు చెందిన జీఎం ఇనియన్ పి.ఏ., కేరళకు చెందిన ఐఎం గౌతమ్ కృష్ణ హెచ్. లు కూడా అతనితో సమంగా లీడ్‌లో చేరారు. ఇంకా రెండు రౌండ్లు మిగిలి ఉండటంతో టైటిల్ పోరు రసవత్తరంగా, ఉత్కంఠభరితంగా మారింది.

గియోకో పియానో గేమ్‌లో రిట్విజ్ పరాబ్, ఆరు సార్లు జాతీయ విజేత అయిన గాంగూలీపై అద్భుత విజయం సాధించాడు. రెండు పావులు కోల్పోయిన గాంగూలీ, చివరికి రిట్విజ్ క్వీన్ సాక్రిఫైస్ తో రెండో ర్యాంక్‌లో రెండు రూక్‌ల దాడి ఎదుర్కొని, 47 మూవ్‌లలో ఓడిపోయాడు.

క్వీన్స్ ఇండియన్ డిఫెన్స్ – కాస్పరోవ్ వెరీయేషన్ లో గౌతమ్ కృష్ణ, అభిజీత్ గుప్తాను ఎండ్‌గేమ్‌లో ఓడించాడు. ఒక చిన్న తప్పిదంతో అదనపు పావు సంపాదించిన గౌతమ్, కింగ్‌ను ప్రత్యర్థి క్యాంప్‌లోకి నడిపి, చివరికి అభిజీత్ క్వీన్ వదులుకోవాల్సి వచ్చింది.

టాప్ బోర్డులో జీఎం సశికిరణ్ – ఐఎం ఎలెక్ట్ అయుష్ శర్మ పోరు డ్రాగా ముగిసింది. చెక్‌మేట్ చేసే అవకాశం ఉన్నా సశి చేసిన చిన్న తప్పుతో స్థితి మారిపోయి డ్రాకు ఒప్పుకోవాల్సి వచ్చింది.

తమిళనాడు ఐఎం మనిష్ ఆంటో క్రిస్టియానో, పీఎస్‌పీబీ జీఎం సేతురామన్ ఆశలను పగలగొట్టాడు. వరుస తప్పిదాలతో సేతు తన పీస్‌లు కోల్పోగా, మనిష్ మూడు పీస్‌ల ఆధిక్యంతో ఘన విజయం సాధించాడు.
