The Andhra Pradesh government has launched an elaborate programme titled 'Yogaandhra-2026' to mark International Yoga Day on June 21, setting a target of engaging one crore citizens across the state in yoga activities, from village level to the state capital.

The flagship event will be held in Amaravati, where 25,000 participants are expected to gather for a state-level yoga session. In the fortnight leading up to the day, awareness drives, walkathons, social media campaigns, and demonstration events will be conducted under the Yogaandhra banner from June 7 to June 20.

District-wise thematic approach

In what officials describe as a distinctive feature of this year's observance, each of the state's 28 districts has been assigned a specific community or occupational group as its theme. NTR district will conduct sessions with police personnel, while East Godavari will involve prison inmates. Visakhapatnam's programme is themed around serving and retired defence personnel, and Alluri Sitarama Raju district will focus on tribal communities.

Other notable pairings include Kurnool with sanitation workers, Tirupati with celebrities, Anantapur with persons with disabilities, and YSR Kadapa with multi-generational family participation. Guntur district's sessions will centre on engineering students, while Prakasam will engage DWACRA women's groups. Each district headquarters is required to ensure a minimum of 1,000 participants.

Infrastructure and digital outreach

Competitions in yoga will be held at village, mandal, district, and state levels, with participation open to students, athletes, women's self-help groups, health workers, and industrial labourers, among others. Venues including schools, parks, community halls, stadiums, and gram sachivalayams will be equipped with drinking water, seating, and temporary shelters.

Oversight of the programme at the district level has been entrusted to the respective Collectors. The Tourism Department has been directed to organise special yoga demonstrations at more than 100 tourist sites across the state.

To streamline participation, the government plans to develop a dedicated web portal and an AI-based registration and verification application. Digital certificates will be issued to all participants upon completion.

EAST GODAVARI, May 3: BJP State president PVN Madhav stressed that people's participation is central to national progress and that development at the village level is the foundation upon which the State and the country must advance, speaking at the 'Mana Ooru – Mana Jenda' (Our Village – Our Flag) programme held at Pangidigodem village in Dwaraka Tirumala mandal of East Godavari district.

Mr. Madhav unfurled the party flag on the occasion, which was organised under the chairmanship of mandal president Chilaka Veeraswamy.

Addressing party workers and villagers, Mr. Madhav called upon every cadre member to work diligently towards strengthening the party at the grassroots level. He urged workers to carry the Central government's welfare and development schemes to the people, asserting that doing so would deepen public trust in the party.

Underlining the collective responsibility of the cadre, Mr. Madhav said it was incumbent upon workers to take the party's ideology and objectives to every household, and that only through united effort could the organisation be strengthened. He added that identifying the problems faced by people and working towards their resolution would further consolidate confidence in the party.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers and party workers in large numbers, contributing to what organisers described as a successful conduct of the programme.

Rajanagaram (East Godavari District), April 26: BJP Andhra Pradesh State President P.V.N. Madhav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Man Ki Baat' programme is steadily fostering a sense of awareness and social responsibility among the youth of the country.

Mr. Madhav was speaking at a gathering held at the ISTS Women's Engineering College in Rajanagaram following a collective viewing of the 133rd edition of 'Man Ki Baat' with students of the institution on Sunday.

Emphasising the indispensable role of young people in nation-building, Mr. Madhav said that Prime Minister Modi was engaging directly with citizens through the monthly radio address, bringing forward inspiring and constructive themes that resonate with the aspirations of the country. "Through this programme, awareness is growing among the youth on issues such as social responsibility, cleanliness, innovation, and startups," he observed.

Calling upon students to go beyond academic pursuits, the BJP leader urged them to actively participate in programmes that serve the larger good of society. He said that listening to 'Man Ki Baat' regularly would enable citizens to stay informed of the positive transformations taking place across the nation. Mr. Madhav encouraged every young woman to discover and nurture her innate talent and contribute meaningfully to the progress of society.

He further appealed to citizens to extend their cooperation to the various programmes being advanced by Prime Minister Modi with the goal of making every individual a stakeholder in the country's development.

Eluru/Rajahmundry, April 23: In a significant push to strengthen enforcement at the grassroots level, Prohibition and Excise Commissioner Chamakuri Sridhar conducted a detailed SHO-wise review meeting covering excise operations in Eluru and Rajahmundry regions. The review focused on operational performance across districts including Eluru, Bhimavaram, Kakinada, Konaseema, and East Godavari, with emphasis on illegal liquor control, digital monitoring, and revenue integrity. The meeting concluded with a strong warning that SHOs failing to control violations and meet enforcement targets within their jurisdictions will face strict departmental action, as the state moves toward a more accountable and crime-free excise administration.

During the meeting, the Commissioner reviewed the performance of each Station House Officer (SHO) individually, moving beyond generalized district-level assessments. He examined crime control measures, particularly the prevalence of illicitly distilled liquor and illegal “belt shops” within respective jurisdictions. Station-wise staff strength and its effective utilisation for enforcement activities like raids and patrolling were also thoroughly assessed.

Emphasizing strict enforcement, the Commissioner again reviewed case detection and follow-up action taken by SHOs against repeat offenders and smugglers. He made it clear that any rise in crime without corresponding enforcement would be viewed seriously and could invite departmental action.

A major focus of the review was the mandatory implementation of the Surakshaa App. The Commissioner directed all SHOs to ensure 100 percent scanning compliance within their limits. The app enables real-time tracking of liquor movement from depots to consumers. Any discrepancies between stock offtake and scanned sales at shops and bars will be closely monitored to detect diversion of non-duty paid liquor.

The review also covered inspections of licensed establishments. SHOs were instructed to conduct frequent surprise checks at shops and bars to ensure adherence to rules, including timing and capacity regulations. The Commissioner also ordered increased collection of liquor samples for chemical analysis to prevent the sale of adulterated or harmful products.

Comparing current performance with last year’s data, he highlighted that growth in legitimate revenue is directly linked to effective control of illegal trade and stressed maintaining a balance between enforcement and revenue collection.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner conducted a high-profile inspection at Ajay Wines in Eluru town, using the Surakshaa App to verify stock authenticity through digital scanning. He directed officials to carry out rigorous and random bottle checks to eliminate the threat of spurious liquor in the market and ensure only genuine stock is sold to consumers.

Senior officials including DC Sreelatha, AC Prabhu Kumar, DPEO Eluru Avulaiah, and DPEO West Godavari Subba Rao participated in the review. From the Rajahmundry region, DC Kakinada Chaitanya Murali, DPEO Rajahmundry Sreelatha, and DPEO Konaseema Kumareswaran were also present.
