Hyderabad ( Journalist File ) : Actor and National Award recipient Allu Arjun was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court on Friday after dramatic developments in the Sandhya Theatre stampede case. Earlier in the day, Arjun was arrested and taken to the Chikkadpally police station, where his statement was recorded. He was subsequently transferred to Gandhi Hospital for medical examinations before being presented at the Nampally court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. Following this, he was sent to Chanchalguda Jail under heavy security. However, the High Court later granted him interim relief after hearing a quash petition.

The case stems from a tragic stampede at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 4 during the screening of Pushpa-2. The incident claimed the life of a woman, Revathi, and left her son critically injured. Police registered a case against Allu Arjun under Sections BNS 105 and 118, making him one of the accused.

Dramatic Arrest and Court Proceedings

Arjun’s arrest unfolded amidst high drama. After returning from a success meet for Pushpa-2 in Delhi, police arrived at his residence in Hyderabad around noon and detained him in the presence of his family. Expressing displeasure over the police’s actions, Arjun was escorted to Chikkadpally police station, accompanied by his father, Allu Aravind.

At the station, Central Zone DCP Akanksha Yadav oversaw his interrogation, which lasted for two hours. Statements from eyewitnesses were recorded as part of the investigation. Meanwhile, prominent figures, including megastar Chiranjeevi and his wife, visited Arjun's residence to extend their support.

After the interrogation, Arjun was taken to Gandhi Hospital for COVID-19 and other routine medical tests. The scene outside the hospital turned chaotic as fans and onlookers gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the actor. With the medical reports deemed normal, he was subsequently presented at Nampally court.

In a video statement, Paul demanded that the actor be released immediately and warned that he would approach the courts with a public interest litigation (PIL) under Article 19 of the Constitution if his release was not ensured.

Paul criticized the inconsistency in the treatment of political leaders and public figures, referencing past incidents during political rallies organized by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He pointed to tragic events such as the death of eight people during a rally in Kandukuru and three in Guntur, as well as the stampede that claimed 23 lives during the Godavari Pushkarams. Paul questioned why Naidu was not arrested or questioned by the authorities in those cases.

He further questioned the double standards in dealing with politicians and ordinary people, stating that such actions would not have been tolerated if ordinary citizens or film personalities were involved. Speaking about the incident, she questioned why Naidu had not been arrested despite previous instances of stampedes occurring under his watch.

The controversy stems from a stampede that occurred on December 4th during a benefit show for the movie Pushpa-2 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. KTR described the arrest of the national award-winning star as an "extreme reaction" that reflects the ruling government's sense of insecurity.

While expressing his condolences for the victims of the stampede, KTR raised the question of who was truly responsible for the incident. He argued that it was wrong to treat Allu Arjun as a common criminal when he was not directly responsible for the tragedy. The actor should not have been subjected to such treatment, he added.

KTR also criticized the government’s heavy-handed approach and suggested that the same principle should be applied to arrest Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the deaths caused during the Hydra demolitions.
