RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM, Sept. 7, 2026: A long-pending demand for a dedicated Kapu Bhavan in Rajamahendravaram moved closer to reality on Monday, with Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh and Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari performing the bhoomi puja for the proposed building.

The foundation ceremony was held on 30 cents of land allotted by the coalition government near the Collectorate in the Rajamahendravaram Rural constituency. The event drew Kapu community representatives and political leaders, with the minister using the occasion to address a dispute over the ownership and status of the site.

Durgesh said the land allotted for the Kapu Bhavan does not fall within the university's jurisdiction, rejecting claims that the government had used university land for the project. He said the original 45-acre parcel had, in 2008, been restricted to 20 acres for the university, while the remaining 25 acres were allocated for other public institutions and purposes.

Of that balance, 10 acres were allotted to the Agriculture University and the National Academy of Construction, where the Collectorate is now located, he said. Another 1.5 acres was allotted to Godavari Gas Private Limited, with the rest distributed among other government institutions. The 30 cents allotted for the Kapu Bhavan therefore had no connection with the university, Durgesh said, urging people not to be misled by claims to the contrary.

The minister described the foundation ceremony as the fulfilment of a decades-old aspiration of the Kapu community. He recalled that efforts to secure land for a Kapu welfare and function hall had continued for years and credited Purandeswari and Daggubati Venkateswara Rao with having pursued the objective.

“Determination can make even a long-standing dream possible,” Durgesh said, arguing that the coalition government's decision had finally created the opportunity to turn the demand into a permanent institution.

Invoking the example of the legendary warrior Kartaviryarjuna, who is traditionally depicted as having a thousand arms in battle, Durgesh said he was prepared to stand with the strength of “a thousand hands” whenever public welfare required it.

He also called for an inclusive approach to social development, referring to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's emphasis on playing the role of an elder brother and bringing different communities and social groups together without discrimination.

Durgesh said the objective would be fully achieved only when construction was completed and the Kapu Bhavan was ready for public use. He appealed to community leaders and others involved in the project to work together to complete the building quickly.

He specifically thanked Purandeswari for her role in helping secure the project and said the coalition government had provided the political support necessary to turn the long-standing demand into reality.

MLC Somu Veerraju, Kapu Welfare Association president Alluri Seshunarayana, honorary president Ramineedi Murali, association leaders Achyuta Ramarao, Ganga Kishore, S. Srinivasa Rao and others attended the ceremony in large numbers.

Vijayawada, April 20: The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and its allies for opposing the Women's Reservation Bill, announcing a series of NDA protest programmes across the State later this month.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP State office in Vijayawada, party State general secretary Nagotu Ramesh Naidu accused Congress and its allies — the Trinamool Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Samajwadi Party — of collectively blocking legislation that sought to ensure equal political representation for women. "They are celebrating this obstruction as though it were a great victory," he said.

Mr. Naidu recalled that the Congress-led UPA government had, during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi, enacted special legislation in the Shah Bano case overriding a Supreme Court ruling. He further noted that while Sonia Gandhi had successfully steered the Women's Reservation Bill through the Rajya Sabha, the party failed to bring it to a vote in the Lok Sabha. He accused the Congress of using Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to play what he termed a "Shikandi role" in obstructing the bill.

Asserting that delimitation must not be carried out on the basis of population ratios alone, Mr. Naidu said the BJP remained committed to reintroducing the Women's Reservation Bill and securing its passage. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards making women equal partners in the nation's development, and no obstacle will deter that goal," he said.

The party announced a series of protest events across Andhra Pradesh. On April 24, a demonstration will be held in Vijayawada with BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav, Minister Kandula Durgesh and TDP State president Palla Srinivasarao as chief guests. A parallel protest will be organised in Rajamahendravari under the leadership of MP Daggubati Purandeswari on the same day.

On April 25, Union Minister of State Bhupatiraju Srinivas Varma will participate in protests at Tirupati, while a separate programme is scheduled in Kurnool.

BJP NTR District president Adduri Sriram was also present at the press conference.

NEW DELHI, APRIL 16: Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha member and BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari on Wednesday lent her unequivocal support to the Delimitation Bill 2026 and the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill introduced in the Lower House, while allaying concerns over the potential marginalisation of southern states in a reconstituted Parliament.

Speaking during the debate on the two bills, Ms. Purandeswari sought to address the apprehension — widely expressed by Opposition members and southern political formations — that a fresh delimitation exercise would result in a net reduction of Lok Sabha seats for states that have performed better on demographic indicators.

No state will lose existing seats, she asserts

Outlining the contours of the Centre's proposal, she said the government's plan to increase the total number of Lok Sabha seats by 50 per cent would ensure that no state loses its current tally of seats. Basing the exercise on the 2011 Census data, she argued, would preserve the existing political balance while accommodating expanded representation commensurate with overall population growth.

"The voice of the southern states will remain as strong as ever in Parliament," she said, adding that the delimitation process would be participatory in nature, with public hearings providing citizens and state governments an opportunity to place their views on record before any final determination is made.

Congress indicted for "deliberate delay" on women's reservation

Turning to the women's reservation provisions embedded in the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, Ms. Purandeswari trained her guns on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, holding it responsible for what she described as decades of unconscionable delay on a matter of fundamental political justice.

She recalled that the Women's Reservation Bill had been pending since 1996 and that while the Rajya Sabha had passed it in 2010, the UPA government had declined to bring it before the Lok Sabha — a failure she characterised as a deliberate act of political omission. "When Prime Minister Modi is now implementing this on a war footing, it ill behoves the Opposition to obstruct it on frivolous political grounds," she said.

Women as decision-makers, not merely participants

Ms. Purandeswari argued that the reservation of seats for women in legislative bodies would effect a qualitative transformation in the nature of women's participation in public life — elevating them from stakeholders to decision-makers in the truest sense. She invoked the legacy of B.R. Ambedkar, contending that the bill was in consonance with his vision of ensuring political justice for historically underrepresented sections of society.

Concluding her address, she said it was a matter of deep personal pride to be a participant in what she called a historic moment in India's constitutional history.

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లో సార్వత్రిక ఎన్నికల షెడ్యూల్ విడుదల గడువు సమీపించిన నేపథ్యంలో ప్రతిపక్ష తెలుగుదేశం- జనసేన మధ్య కుదిరిన సీట్ల పంపకాల వ్యవహారంపై చెలరేగిన దుమారం.. ఇప్పుడిప్పుడే తగ్గేలా కనిపించట్లేదు. రెండు పార్టీల్లో తీవ్ర అసమ్మతి చెలరేగింది. సీట్ల సంఖ్య, అభ్యర్థుల ఎంపిక అసంతృప్త వాతావరణాన్ని రాజేసింది.

టికెట్ దక్కని తెలుగుదేశం, జనసేన పార్టీ నాయకులు.. ఈ రెండింటికి ప్రత్యామ్నాయంగా బీజేపీ వైపు చూపులు సారిస్తోన్నారు. కాషాయ కండువాను కప్పుకోవడానికి రెడీ అయ్యారు. ఎన్నికల నాటికి బీజేపీలో చేరాలని నిర్ణయించుకున్నారు. ఈ మేరకు ఏపీ బీజేపీ నేతలతో సంప్రదింపులు సైతం మొదలు పెట్టారు. అక్కడే అసలు చిక్కొచ్చి పడింది.

మీ పార్టీలో పని చేస్తాం.. మీ నాయకత్వంలో పార్టీని బలోపేతం చేస్తాం.. ఎన్నికల్లో పోటీ చేసి సత్తా చూపిద్దాం అని కాస్త ప్రజా బలం ఉన్న నేత ఎవరైనా వస్తే.. ఏ పార్టీ కూడా వదులుకోదు. అంగ, అర్థబలాలున్న నేతలొస్తే రెడ్ కార్పెట్ వేస్తారు. కానీ ఏపీ బీజేపీలో మాత్రం దీనికి పూర్తి భిన్నమైన వాతావరణం నెలకొంది.

అలా సంప్రదించిన కొందరు టికెట్ రాని, పోటీ రేసులో ఉన్న తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ నేతలను బుజ్జగించి మరీ వారు ఉన్న పార్టీలోనే ఉండాలని బీజేపీలోకి రావాల్సిన అవసరం లేదని చెబుతారు. కాస్త విచిత్రంగా ఉన్నా ఏపీ బీజేపీలో ఇప్పుడు ఇదే జరుగుతోంది. ఇదేం నాయకత్వం అని ఇతర పార్టీల వారు కూడా విస్మయానికి గురయ్యే పరిస్థితి కనిపిస్తోంది. టీడీపీ, జనసేన పొత్తుల కారణంగా చాలా మంది కీలక నేతలకు చోటు దక్కడం లేదు. టీడీపీలో అనేక మంది సీనియర్లకు తొలి జాబితాలో చోటు దక్కలేదు. అలాగే జనసేన కోసం కష్టపడిన వారు కూడా నిరాశకు గురవుతున్నారు. వారంతా ఎన్నికల్లో పోటీ చేసి సత్తా చాటాలన్న లక్ష్యంతో భారతీయ జనతా పార్టీలో చేరాలని అనుకుంటున్నారు. ఇదే ఉద్దేశంతో తమ బలం.. బలగాన్ని ఉపయోగించి బీజేపీని మరితం బలపరుస్తామని చెబుతూ పార్టీలోకి చేరేందుకు ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నారు.

పార్టీ రాష్ట్రశాఖ అధ్యక్షురాలు పురంధీశ్వరీ మాత్రం.. అసలు వారిని పార్టీలో చేర్చుకునేందుకు ఏ మాత్రం ఆసక్తి చూపించట్లేదు. పైగా వారిని టీడీపీలోనే ఉండాలని ఒత్తిడి చేస్తోన్నారు. అంతే కాదు- అలా తమ పార్టీలో చేరాలనుకుంటోన్న నేతల సమాచారాన్ని సైతం టీడీపీకి అందిస్తున్నట్లుగా తెలుస్తోంది. దీంతో బీజేపీని సంప్రదించిన నేతలకు మైండ్ బ్లాంక్ అవుతోంది. బీజేపీ అధ్యక్షురాలు కూడా టీడీపీ కోసం పని చేస్తున్నారా? ఇదేం పద్దతి? అంటూ వారు చర్చించుకుంటున్నారు. ఈ మద్య ఒంగోలు, నెల్లూరు జిల్లాకు చెందిన ఓ లోక్‌సభ, ఓ రాజ్యసభ చెందిన ఇద్దరు ఎంపీలు బీజేపీలో చేరేందుకు రాష్ట్ర నాయకత్వాన్ని సంప్రదించారు. వారిని టీడీపీలో చేరాలని బీజేపీ ముఖ్య నేతగా ఉన్న ఆ పార్టీ బీజేపీ అధ్యక్షురాలే వారికి సూచించారని అంటున్నారు.

దగ్గుబాటి పురందేశ్వరి భర్త దగ్గుబాటి వెంకటేశ్వరరావు ఇలాంటి విషయాల్లో చురుగ్గా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నట్లు తెలుస్తోంది. తామే ఈ పార్టీలో చేరి తప్పు చేశామని భావనలో దగ్గుబాటి మాట్లాడడం ఆశ్చర్యం కలిగిస్తోంది. బీజేపీలో చేరికలు జరగకుండా ఎలా చేయాలనే విషయంపై ఓ జర్నలిస్టుతో మాట్లాడిన ఆడియో తాజాగా వెలుగులోకి వచ్చింది.

ఈ ఆడియో బీజేపీ హైకమాండ్‌ వద్దకు చేరింది. అలాగే బీజేపీ హైకమాండ్‌తో పరిచయాలు ఉన్న వారు మరికొంత మంది నేతలు- పార్టీలో చేరేందుకు ఢిల్లీ పెద్దలనే సంప్రదించారు. రాష్ట్ర నాయకత్వంతో మాట్లాడమని హైకమాండ్ చెప్పడంతో ఇక్కడ నేతల్ని సంప్రదించడంతో .. పార్టీ మారొద్దని మోటివేట్ చేశారు. ఇది తేడాగా ఉండటంతో ఆయా నేతలు- ఢిల్లీ పెద్దలకు ఈ విషయాలను చేరవేసినట్లుగా తెలుస్తోంది. దీనిపై బీజేపీ హైకమాండ్ ఆరా తీసినట్లుగా సమాచారం. వారు చెప్పినవన్నీ నిజమేనని, తమకు తెలిసింది కొంచెమేనని హైకమాండ్‌కు అర్థమయిందని అంటున్నారు. పురంధీశ్వరీకి బాధ్యతలు ఇచ్చి అంత కంటే ఎక్కువ తప్పిదం చేశామని హైకమాండ్ భావిస్తున్నట్లుగా తెలుస్తోంది. ఎన్నికల సమయంలో బీజేపీలో చేరడానికి ఏ రాష్ట్రంలో అయినా నేతలు ప్రయత్నిస్తూంటారు. కానీ ఏపీలో ఇటీవలి కాలంలో ఒక రాష్ట్ర స్థాయి ముఖ్య నేత సైతం చేరకపోవడం నేడు పలు అనుమానాలకు తావిస్తుంది. దీనికి కారణం కూడా హైకమాండ్ కూడా నేడు అర్థమయిందని అంటున్నారు.

బీజేపీలో చేరేందుకు సిద్ధమయిన వాళ్లను కూడా ఆపేస్తున్నారని స్పష్టమయిందని, దేశంలో అన్ని రాష్ట్రాల్లో ఇతర పార్టీల నుంచి వేతలు చేరుతుంటే ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లో ఎందుకు అలా జరగట్లేదో.. ఈ ఆడియో సంఘటనతో వాస్తవాలు వెలుగులోకి వస్తున్నాయి. ఏపీ బీజేపీ వ్యవహారాలపై జాతీయ ముఖ్యులు కూడా అసంతృప్తిగా ఉన్నారని తెలుస్తోంది. పురంధీశ్వరీ పార్టీని నడుపుతున్నట్లుగా లేదని.. పూర్తి స్థాయిలో తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ అధికారంలోకి రావడం కోసం పని చేస్తున్నట్లుగా నిర్ణయాలు ఉంటున్నాయన్న నివేదికను హైకమాండ్ కు కోందరు నేతలు పంపారని అంటున్నారు. పురంధీశ్వరీ అధ్యక్షరాలిగా అయిన తర్వాత అందర్నీ ఆ పార్టీలో ఉండే సొంత రాజ్యసభ సభ్యులు, ముఖ్యనేతలను సైతం కలుపుకునే ప్రయత్నం చేయడం లేదని సొంత పార్టీ నేతలు అంటున్నారు. మొత్తంగా ఏపీ బీజేపీ రాష్ట్ర నాయకత్వం తీరుపై బీజేపీ ఆగ్రహంగా ఉంది. ఈ ఎన్నికల తర్వాత రాష్ట్ర అధ్యక్షురాలి విషయంలో సంచలన నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకునే అవకాశాలు ఉన్నట్లు ఢిల్లీలో అంతర్గత చర్చల్లో బిజెపి నేతలు మాట్లాడుకోవడం ఆశ్చర్యం కలిగిస్తుంది . ఏది ఏమైనా నేడు సొంత పార్టీ నేతల పార్టీకి ఇతర పార్టీల నుంచి రాకుండా అడ్డుకోవడం అనేది ఆ పార్టీలో పెద్ద చర్చనీయాంశం.
