Without elaborating on the specifics of Tehran's offer, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform: "I just read the response from those who purport to represent Iran. I don't like it — it is not acceptable in any way." The blunt dismissal came shortly after Iranian state media outlined the broad contours of what Tehran had proposed.

What Iran Sought

According to Iran's state-run news agency Tasnim, Tehran's proposals included compensation for damages suffered during the conflict, a lifting of the naval blockade on its ports, a binding American assurance against further strikes, removal of sanctions, and an end to the embargo on Iranian oil sales. Iran also demanded the release of Iranian assets frozen in international banks under American pressure, and sought guarantees for safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as security arrangements in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei defended the proposals as reasonable and responsible. "Our demands are legitimate. We called for an end to the war, the lifting of the blockade, a halt to maritime piracy, and the release of frozen Iranian assets," he said, adding that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security arrangements were also among Tehran's conditions.

Hormuz Tensions and Oil Markets

With negotiations deadlocked following Trump's rejection, the Strait of Hormuz — a critical chokepoint through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes — came under renewed strain. Iran has warned that it would retaliate if the United States launches strikes, and has signalled that foreign warships may no longer be permitted to enter the strait. The resulting uncertainty sent crude oil prices sharply higher on Monday, with markets registering a rise of approximately three per cent.

Trump's China Visit from Wednesday

Against this backdrop of West Asian tensions, Trump is scheduled to travel to China on Wednesday for a three-day visit — his first trip to the country since 2017. He is expected to hold meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday and Friday, with the agenda likely to include discussions on Iran, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, and nuclear weapons.

American officials indicated that the two leaders may also take up the extension of an existing critical minerals agreement between the two countries. The visit marks the first face-to-face talks between the leaders of the world's two largest economies in six months, and comes at a time when both nations are seeking to recalibrate trade ties strained by tariff disputes.

Americans Billed for Unbuilt Power Projects

In a separate development, millions of American consumers are being charged for electricity grid upgrades that have not yet been completed — and whose benefits remain years away. As ageing grid infrastructure prompts policymakers to accelerate modernisation, utilities across the United States are being permitted to bill customers in advance of the construction of new power plants and transmission lines, according to a Reuters report.

The move is being justified on the grounds that upfront financing will yield long-term savings, but households and businesses already grappling with elevated energy costs are set to see their bills rise further. Demand for grid upgrades has intensified amid the rapid expansion of data centres driven by artificial intelligence, adding urgency to the overhaul. Critics, however, argue that utilities should recover construction costs only after projects are completed, rather than passing financial risk on to consumers during the building phase. Individual household bills could rise by several dollars per month as a result of the pre-construction charges.

During the meeting, Mr. Yadav briefed Prof. Teo on the range of initiatives being undertaken by the Telugu Desam-led coalition government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to strengthen public health delivery in the State.

AI, digital records, and cancer screening

The minister outlined the State's adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare services for economically weaker patients, and the use of the NCD-04 programme for early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers through systematic screening.
Mr. Yadav drew particular attention to the STEMI programme, under which patients arriving at government hospitals within the golden hour of a cardiac event are provided a costly clot-dissolving injection free of charge — a measure aimed at improving survival outcomes for heart attack patients who cannot afford private care.

In what is being described as a first of its kind initiative in the country, 18 startups were simultaneously deployed across government hospitals in the State under the 'AP MedTech Innovation Challenge', a policy framework introduced by the Health Department. The Minister attributed the success of the initiative to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's vision for technology-driven governance.

Out of 297 applications received from startups, 18 were shortlisted through a three-tier evaluation process to operate across four categories — Diagnostic Tools, Portable Point of Care, Smart Monitoring and Wearables, and Remote Care Telemedicine. Over a 37-day period from February to end of March, the startups collectively served 12,677 patients under medical supervision.

Notable Outcomes

The results have been significant across multiple health parameters. One startup, after screening 7,433 patients, detected early-stage tuberculosis in 15 to 25 per cent of those examined. Another screened 1,200 patients and identified 34 requiring cataract surgery and 10 with glaucoma. A cervical cancer screening drive flagged suspected symptoms in 15 individuals. In Parvathipuram Manyam district, respiratory problems were detected in 30 newborns, while cardiac screening of 323 patients in Kurnool district revealed heart-related anomalies in 2.17 per cent of cases. Notably, the deployment of AI scribe technology in consultations with 2,100 patients resulted in a time saving of up to 70 per cent compared to conventional methods.

The startups demonstrated their innovations at hospitals including GGH Kakinada, Vijayawada, Anantapur, Tirupati Ruia, Visakha Victoria, and several primary and sub-health centres across the State.

Evaluation and Incentives

The performance of these startups will be assessed by the Committee for Applied Technologies in Health (CATH), which includes representatives from the Indian Institute of Science, ICMR, AIG Hospitals Hyderabad, and other leading institutions. Startups ranked first, second, and third across four categories — totalling 12 organisations — will receive cash incentives of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh respectively, amounting to a total outlay of Rs. 40 lakh. The top-performing startup overall will additionally receive a work order valued at Rs. one crore. These measures are being taken in accordance with GO No. 33 issued by the IT Department in August 2025.

A special conference is to be convened shortly in Amaravati to disseminate the findings to all departments within the Health Ministry, with government medical officers from all districts, medical students, faculty, and representatives from national bodies including the National Health Authority, e-Health Startup India, India AI Mission, and IIT Kanpur, among others, expected to participate.

The government is also considering continuing the AP MedTech Innovation Challenge framework as a sustained policy to progressively expand AI-based services across government hospitals in the State.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Subbarao underlined that political competition had moved well beyond public meetings and rallies, extending firmly into the digital domain. "Social media platforms are not merely communication tools.
He also stressed the importance of official digital platforms, including MyGov and the Saral App, as effective tools for managing party activities and delivering information directly to citizens.

Noting the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence, Mr. Subbarao called upon party cadre to familiarise themselves with AI-based tools for creating posters, videos, and messaging content, describing such technologies as essential to faster and more impactful communication.

He outlined several action points for cadre, including ensuring that every booth maintain at least one dedicated digital team, that every cadre member remain active on social media, and that cadre be equipped to counter misinformation promptly with verified information.

NEW DELHI — In a landmark ruling that sits at the intersection of cricket, celebrity, and cutting-edge technology, the Delhi High Court has drawn a firm legal line around one of India's most recognised sporting figures — Gautam Gambhir.

And it has done so with the full force of the law.

The Ruling

Justice Jyoti Singh of the Delhi High Court issued a sweeping interim order on March 25, restraining multiple social media users and unnamed entities from using Gautam Gambhir's name, image, voice, likeness, or any other attribute of his persona without his explicit consent or authorisation.

The order covers everything — AI-generated content, deepfake videos, voice cloning, face morphing, superimposed images, audio recordings, and even merchandise bearing his likeness sold on e-commerce platforms.

In plain terms: if you use Gautam Gambhir's face, voice, or name without his permission — for commercial gain or otherwise — you are now in contempt of court.

The court did not stop there. It directed e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart, along with tech behemoths Google and Meta Platforms Inc, to take down all offending content within 36 hours of the order. The matter has been listed for its next hearing on May 19.

Who Is Being Protected — and Why

Gautam Gambhir is not merely a cricket administrator. He is one of the most decorated cricketers in Indian history — a man who played 58 Tests, 147 One Day Internationals, and 37 T20 Internationals for India between 2004 and 2016. He is now the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team, carrying the hopes of a cricket-obsessed nation on his shoulders.

Justice Jyoti Singh acknowledged his stature without hesitation. As one of the "most decorated cricketers of this country," the court ruled, Gambhir has an unambiguous right "to protect his name, likeness and all other attributes of his personality" — and no third party has any right whatsoever to exploit those attributes without his consent.

It is a ruling that recognises something courts around the world are increasingly being forced to confront: in the age of artificial intelligence, fame itself has become vulnerable.

The Digital Attack on Gambhir

What drove Gambhir to court was not a single incident but a coordinated and sustained campaign of digital impersonation that his legal team described as both malicious and dangerous.

Social media accounts had deployed artificial intelligence, face-swapping software, and voice-cloning technology to create shockingly realistic videos falsely depicting Gambhir — fabrications so convincing that they spread rapidly across platforms, racking up hundreds of thousands of views before anyone could intervene.

The content was not merely embarrassing. It was damaging.

Fabricated videos purported to show Gambhir resigning as India's head coach following poor performances. Others depicted him assaulting a fellow player — events that never happened, manufactured entirely by technology and distributed as if they were real.

And then there was perhaps the most egregious example of all: a social media account that superimposed Gambhir's face onto an image of Mahatma Gandhi — the father of the nation — in a face-swapped video that garnered lakhs of views. Gambhir's counsel, Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, called it exactly what it was: unauthorised digital impersonation, misrepresentation, a grave violation of personality rights — and a profound act of disrespect toward one of history's most revered figures.

Merchandise bearing Gambhir's image was also being sold online without his knowledge or authorisation — turning his identity into a commercial product he had no say in.

The Legal Argument

Dehadrai argued the case with passion and precision. Gambhir, he told the court, has given 23 years of his life to Indian cricket — first as a player of the highest distinction, now as the head coach of the national team. That service, that sacrifice, that reputation — all of it was being systematically exploited and destroyed by faceless digital operators hiding behind anonymous accounts.

The offending content, Dehadrai argued, had "material consequence" on Gambhir — consequences that went beyond hurt feelings or wounded pride into the realm of genuine professional and reputational damage.

The court agreed.

A Ruling For the Digital Age

What makes this judgment significant extends far beyond cricket and far beyond Gautam Gambhir.

India, like the rest of the world, is grappling with an artificial intelligence revolution that has outpaced the law at every turn. Deepfake technology has reached a level of sophistication where fabricated videos are virtually indistinguishable from real ones. Voice cloning can replicate a person's speech patterns with unnerving accuracy. And social media platforms — despite their community guidelines and content policies — have repeatedly proven unable or unwilling to act swiftly enough to prevent the spread of such content.

Friday's ruling by Justice Jyoti Singh represents one of India's most comprehensive judicial responses to this crisis. By explicitly listing technologies including artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, deepfakes, AI chatbots, face morphing, and style-of-speech imitation in its restraining order, the court has signalled that Indian law is evolving to meet the challenge — and that personality rights in the digital age are real, enforceable, and not to be trifled with.

What Happens Next

Amazon, Flipkart, Google, and Meta have been given 36 hours to remove offending content. The named defendants — and a number of unknown entities whose identities may yet be uncovered — are under a court-imposed restraining order that carries serious legal consequences if violated.

The next hearing is scheduled for May 19. By then, Gambhir's legal team will be watching closely to see whether the platforms comply — and whether the anonymous operators behind the offending accounts can be identified and brought before the court.

For Gautam Gambhir, the ruling is a victory — but also a sobering reminder of the world public figures now inhabit. A world where your face can be stolen, your voice can be cloned, your reputation can be shredded, and your identity can be sold — all without your knowledge, all at the click of a button.

The Delhi High Court has said enough is enough.

Now the question is whether the platforms, the algorithms, and the anonymous actors hiding behind them are listening.
