Smriti Mandhana Becomes Leading Run-Scorer in Women’s T20Is
NAGOYA, September 20, 2026: India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana created history on Sunday by becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s T20 International cricket during the Asian Games semi-final against Bangladesh in Nagoya, Japan.
Mandhana overtook New Zealand great Suzie Bates, who had held the record with 4,758 runs. She reached the milestone in the third over of India’s innings after scoring the seven runs required to move past Bates.
Mandhana eventually scored 37 runs off 19 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Her innings took her past Bates on the all-time T20I run-scoring list.
Another landmark for Mandhana
Mandhana's achievement came in her 178th T20I, with the record reached during her 171st innings. Before the match, Bates had 4,758 runs from 186 matches, while Mandhana had 4,758? Actually, she needed only seven runs to surpass Bates.
During the same innings, Mandhana also reached 100 sixes in women's T20Is, adding another milestone to her record-breaking day.
India's captain Harmanpreet Kaur remains third on the all-time women's T20I run-scoring list with 4,287 runs, according to the latest match statistics.
India reach Asian Games final
Mandhana's milestone came during a strong Indian batting display against Bangladesh. Shafali Verma scored an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls, while Mandhana contributed 37 and Harmanpreet Kaur 40 as India posted 195 for four.
India then bowled Bangladesh out for 81 in 15.4 overs, winning the semi-final by 114 runs and advancing to the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka.
