BJP Plans Wider Grassroots Presence in Local Body Elections

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, October 1, 2026 (Journalist File): Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav has called upon the party cadre to intensify organisational activities at the grassroots and prepare comprehensively for the forthcoming local body elections. He made the call at a three-hour-long meeting of the BJP state office-bearers in Vijayawada on Thursday.

State in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadoria and co-in-charge Vanathi Srinivasan participated in the meeting, where the party’s organisational preparedness, ongoing service activities and strategy for the local body elections were discussed.

Madhav asked the cadre to become more active at the field level following the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s direction to initiate the local body election process within six weeks. He said the party should identify areas where it has organisational strength and formulate plans in coordination with alliance partners for securing appropriate seats.

The BJP should work towards establishing representation across all levels of local governance, including gram panchayats, mandal-level bodies, Zilla Parishads, municipalities and municipal corporations, Madhav said. He called for systematic efforts to expand the party’s organisational base from villages and booths to urban local bodies.

He said the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being conducted across Andhra Pradesh since September 17 has included blood donation camps, Ayush medical camps, Anganwadi programmes and painting and public-speaking competitions for students. The party will launch the Seva Jyothi Yatra across the state from October 7, covering all 175 Assembly constituencies, he said.

Madhav said various programmes would be conducted until October 17 in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public life. The BJP would also undertake programmes to explain to people the assistance and development initiatives being provided to Andhra Pradesh by the Union government.

Projects involving Polavaram and Amaravati, along with railway projects, national highways and tourism initiatives, would be highlighted during these programmes, Madhav said. He stressed that the party should not limit service activities to individual events but should continuously follow up on their outcomes.

Arvind Singh Bhadoria stressed the need to build a strong and ideologically committed cadre network up to the booth level. State and district office-bearers should regularly visit the field, reconnect with senior and long-standing cadre and maintain continuous communication with them, he said.

Bhadoria also called for greater attention to social, political and organisational issues and asked the cadre to study them systematically. He said the party should maintain coordination with its alliance partners while strengthening the BJP’s organisational identity and taking its principles to the people.

Vanathi Srinivasan said the historical, cultural and family ties between Telugu- and Tamil-speaking people reflected the broader unity of the country. She said the BJP was strengthening its organisation in Andhra Pradesh and called upon the cadre to remain connected with every booth, village and household.

She asked party leaders to explain Union government welfare schemes and development programmes to people at the grassroots and ensure that the benefits and details of such initiatives reach every section of society.

BJP MLA Parthasarathi said the meeting discussed areas where the party has organisational strength and the possibility of fielding BJP candidates in local bodies in those areas. He said the state president had directed the cadre to work towards increasing the party’s representation in panchayats, municipalities and corporations.

State spokesperson V. Jayaprakash said the local body elections should be viewed in the context of further expanding the BJP’s organisational network. He said efforts should be made to secure representation through ward members, MPTCs, ZPTCs, municipal councillors and corporators.

Jayaprakash said district-wise reports identifying areas of BJP organisational strength had been prepared. Candidate selection would be discussed in coordination with the three alliance partners, taking into consideration the organisational position of each party in different areas, he said.

He also referred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s October 1 ruling on the 34 per cent reservation provided for BCs in local body elections. He said the meeting discussed the legal implications of the judgment and the next course of action.

Sujana Chowdary, MLCs Somu Veerraju and Pothula Sunitha, MLAs Vishnu Kumar Raju, Adinarayana Reddy, Nadikudi Eswara Rao, Parthasarathi and Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, state general secretaries Nagothu Ramesh Naidu, Sanna Dayakar Reddy, Matta Prasad and Lakshmi Prasanna, organisational general secretary Madhukar, state vice-presidents Garapati Ram Anjaneya Chowdary, Gudise Devanand and Bitra Sivannarayana, BJP leaders Suresh Reddy, Vakati Narayana Reddy and Kola Anand, media in-charge Kilari Dileep, chief spokesperson V.
