NEW DELHI, September 26, 2026 (Journalist File): The Election Commission of India has simplified the procedure for voters who have received notices as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, allowing them to complete the required verification process without necessarily visiting a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in person.
Under the revised arrangement, BLOs will visit the homes of voters who have received notices and collect the required information and supporting documents. The move is intended to make the verification process more convenient for electors and reduce the need for them to travel to election offices or meet BLOs at designated locations. The ECI's SIR framework already provides for door-to-door engagement by BLOs during the revision exercise.
The BLOs will also upload the documents submitted by voters through the designated online system, according to the information provided by the Election Commission. Voters therefore need only keep the relevant documents available and hand them over to the BLO during the verification process.
The SIR exercise involves verification of electoral details and examination of documents where required. The Election Commission has also clarified in recent communications that the issuance of a notice does not by itself mean that a voter's name has been deleted from the electoral roll; voters are given an opportunity to respond and provide the required documents.
The revised approach is aimed at reducing procedural difficulties for voters while enabling election officials to complete the verification and documentation process. The ECI's voter services portal also provides online facilities related to electoral-roll services and SIR.
