AMARAVATI, September 26, 2026 (Journalist File): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has welcomed the Election Commission's joint clarification on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying it has addressed the doubts surrounding the exercise.
In a post on X, Naidu said the joint clarification issued by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi reaffirmed the integrity and credibility of constitutional institutions. He said the statement had put to rest misconceptions surrounding the SIR process. The Election Commission said on September 26 that the SIR decisions had been taken unanimously by the three-member Commission.
Naidu said decisions concerning the revision of electoral rolls were being taken collectively and in accordance with institutional procedures. He described attempts to undermine public confidence in India's democratic and electoral processes for short-term political interests as unfortunate.
The Chief Minister also said election results reflected the people's mandate and that accepting victory and defeat with dignity was an important quality of democratic leadership. He stressed the importance of respecting constitutional institutions and maintaining public confidence in the country's electoral process as a responsibility shared by political leaders across party lines.
The Election Commission's clarification came amid reports of differences among the three commissioners over aspects of the SIR exercise. The Commission said individual views expressed during internal deliberations did not constitute decisions and maintained that its decisions, including the SIR order, were unanimous.
