HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 3: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has recommended the dismissal of Minister Konda Surekha from the State Cabinet, bringing an end to speculation over whether she would resign or be removed from office.
The recommendation was sent to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma after the Congress leadership is learnt to have approved the move. Ms. Surekha is understood to have declined to resign, following which the Chief Minister recommended her removal from the Council of Ministers.
The development comes amid a political controversy surrounding Ms. Surekha that had triggered considerable discussion within the Telangana unit of the Congress. The final decision on her removal will rest with the Governor.
In a separate move, the State government removed Chinna Reddy from the post of Vice-Chairman of the Telangana Planning Commission. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed to the post.
The government also appointed Nerella Sharada as Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women and Gundu Sudharani as Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority.
The appointments and changes are part of a wider reshuffle in key nominated positions under the Congress government.
