India Emerges as a Strong Growth Engine Under PM Modi
7.8% GDP growth reflects economic resilience: BJP
‘Growth remains broad-based despite global uncertainties’, says BJP State media in-charge Kilari Dileep
VIJAYAWADA, SEPTEMBER 3: India’s economy is demonstrating strong growth momentum despite global economic uncertainties, with the country’s 7.8% real GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026-27 reflecting its resilience, BJP Andhra Pradesh State media in-charge Dr. Kilari Dileep said on Thursday.
Mr. Dileep said the performance was supported by broad-based growth across manufacturing, services, private investment, consumption and exports. According to the figures cited by him, real GDP stood at ₹81.36 lakh crore during the April-June quarter, while nominal GDP grew by 10.3% and real Gross Value Added (GVA) increased by 8.2%.
Manufacturing recorded 9.2% growth, while services expanded by 10%. Private investment grew by 11.9%, private consumption by 7.1% and exports by 12%, he said. The figures indicated that the expansion was not dependent on any single sector but was supported by several components of the economy.
Mr. Dileep said the 7.8% growth was higher than the Reserve Bank of India’s earlier estimate of 7% and the approximately 7.1% projection by economists. The rise in private investment, he said, pointed to strengthening investment activity, while the growth in private consumption reflected the resilience of domestic demand.
He said India’s economic performance was noteworthy amid geopolitical tensions, uncertainty over energy prices and fluctuations in global trade. The International Monetary Fund has projected global economic growth at around 3% for 2026, he said.
Mr. Dileep, however, noted that India’s quarterly GDP growth and the IMF’s global growth projection referred to different periods and should not be directly compared. India’s 7.8% figure represents year-on-year growth for the first quarter of the financial year, while the IMF’s projection relates to global growth for the full calendar year.
Mr. Dileep attributed India’s economic performance to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the country was increasingly emerging as an important contributor to global economic growth.
