GUNTUR, Sept. 24, 2026 (JOURNALIST FILE): Guntur District Collector C.M. Saikanth Varma has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and practical plan for a new building at the Government General Hospital (GGH), to be constructed with Rs 5.27 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
Reviewing the proposed building plan at GGH on Thursday, Varma said the design should take into account the workload of different departments and provide adequate space for their current and future needs. He instructed the heads of General Medicine, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Trauma Care to prepare detailed requirements and submit their plans by Saturday. The design, he said, should also allow for future expansion and should contain no structural or planning deficiencies.
The Collector said doctors and hospital staff should work in coordination to improve patient services and strengthen the hospital's reputation. He also called for greater attention to basic infrastructure for patients visiting the hospital.
Plastic surgery ward inspected
Varma inspected the ongoing work on a Plastic Surgery ward being taken up with Rs 25 lakh in locally mobilised funds. He directed APMSIDC engineers to ensure that the building had no water leakage and that all construction was completed in accordance with quality standards.
Sanitation to improve within a month
The Collector set a one-month deadline for a significant improvement in sanitation at GGH. He asked officials to give particular attention to cleanliness in the outpatient department and toilets and ensure that patients do not face sanitation-related problems.
GGH Superintendent Durga Prasad, heads of various departments and other officials attended the review meeting.
