VISAKHAPATNAM, Sept. 15, 2026: Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, a former deputy chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and senior political leader, died of a heart attack in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. He was 57.
Nani’s death cast a pall of gloom over Eluru and the former West Godavari region, where he had built his political career. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Born in Eluru on Dec. 30, 1969, Nani entered politics with the Congress in 1994 and contested the Eluru Assembly seat that year, but lost. He was defeated again in the 1999 election. In 2004, he defeated TDP candidate Ambika Krishna to enter the Assembly for the first time. He remained a Congress legislator until 2013, when he resigned from the party and joined the YSR Congress Party.
Nani contested the 2014 Assembly election on a YSRCP ticket but was defeated. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 2017. In the 2019 Assembly election, he won the Eluru seat and joined the Cabinet of then-Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as deputy chief minister and health minister. He lost the 2024 Assembly election and resigned from the YSRCP on Aug. 17 that year. He joined the Telugu Desam Party on Feb. 13, 2025.
Chandrababu Expresses Shock
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over Nani’s sudden death. In a message on X, Naidu said the death had deeply saddened him and described it as particularly painful that Nani had died of a heart attack at a relatively young age. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed leader’s soul to rest in peace.
Lokesh Pays Tribute
Minister Nara Lokesh said he was deeply shocked by reports of Nani’s death from a heart attack. Describing him as a leader who stayed away from controversies and maintained cordial relations with people across political lines, Lokesh paid tribute to his memory and expressed his condolences to the family.
Pawan Kalyan Mourns Death
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said Nani’s sudden death was deeply saddening. He recalled Nani’s public service as an MLA from Eluru and as a member of the Legislative Council. Pawan Kalyan expressed his condolences to the family and prayed for peace to the departed leader’s soul.
