AP Government Extends Job Age Limit to 44, Giving Aspirants a Fresh Chance
AMARAVATI, Sept. 15, 2026: Thousands of government-job aspirants in Andhra Pradesh received a major reprieve on Tuesday, with the state government raising the upper age limit for recruitment to most government posts from 34 years to 44 years.
The General Administration Department issued G.O. Nos. 187 and 188, extending the relaxation until Sept. 30, 2027. The revised age rules will apply to recruitment conducted through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), District Selection Committee (DSC) and other government recruiting agencies.
For general-category candidates, the upper age limit for most government posts has been increased by 10 years. In the case of uniformed services, the government has sanctioned a two-year relaxation in the upper age limit. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will continue to receive the additional age concessions already provided under existing rules.
A Second Chance for Aspirants
The move addresses a long-standing concern among unemployed youth who had been unable to compete for government vacancies after crossing the existing age ceiling. The government said it considered representations from public representatives and requests made by the Deputy Chief Minister and Human Resources Development Minister before taking the decision.
The relaxation is intended to widen the pool of eligible candidates and give those who lost recruitment opportunities because of the earlier age limit another chance to compete.
Relief Ahead of Recruitment Drive
With the revised ceiling, candidates up to 44 years of age in the general category can now become eligible for most state government recruitment notifications issued within the validity period, subject to the specific qualifications and cut-off dates prescribed for each post.
The government has made it clear that the relaxation will remain effective only until Sept. 30, 2027, making the period an important window for aspirants who have been waiting for an opportunity to enter government service.
